March 18, 2019, Kleinburg, ON – The McMichael Canadian Art Collection was delighted to welcome the Honourable Pablo Rodriguez, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Multiculturalism, for a tour of the McMichael collection and special exhibitions on Thursday, March 14, 2019, accompanied by Deb Schulte, MP for King–Vaughan, Majid Jowhari, MP for Richmond Hill, and Andrew W. The Minister toured the galleries in English and French with Laurel Saint-Pierre, Head of Exhibitions and Publications at the McMichael, and enjoyed coffee in the Founders’ Lounge, the heart of the McMichael’s original home. The group also had the opportunity to stop briefly in the vault to view treasures from the collection not currently on display.

“Many thanks for the incredible tour! The McMichael Canadian Art Collection stands alone as the only museum in the country that exclusively showcases Canadian and Indigenous art.”

-The Honourable Pablo Rodriguez, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Multiculturalism

“I very much enjoyed sharing the wonders of the McMichael Art Collection, our Canadian art gem in Kleinburg, with Minister Rodriguez and my colleague Majid Jowhari, MP Richmond Hill. We need to encourage more people to come out and discover what this beautiful Gallery has to offer, nestled in the trees and adjacent to the East Humber River.”

-Deb Schulte, Member of Parliament for King-Vaughan and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of National Revenue

“As home to the art of Canada, we were honoured to host Minister Rodriguez and MPs Deb Schulte and Majid Jowhari on a tour of three exhibitions of outstanding women artists from Quebec—Françoise Sullivan, Rita Letendre and Marie-Claire Blais—along with our Director’s Cut exhibition which highlights an incredible range of paintings and sculptures from our permanent collection. Thursday’s visit to the gallery, alive with so many visitors enjoying March break, perfectly encapsulates our broad mandate to showcase both historical and contemporary art from all parts of Canada.”

-Andrew W. Dunn, Chair of the McMichael Board of Trustees
