Exhibition of Student Work 2023

In the Fall of 2023, the McMichael offered the Leaders of Tomorrow program as a four-day experience. Each day, students explored current exhibitions and worked with contemporary artists and McMichael Educators. 27 Grade 7 students from Eastview Public School participated in theis pilot program.

This format provided an opportunity to integrate a variety of voices and perspectives on art and culture, allowing students to share their thoughts in a safe and inclusive space. On the first and last days of the program, students from Kleinburg Public School joined students from Eastview Public School to share their experiences and work collaboratively.

This exchange offered students an occasion to forge friendships beyond their everyday environment and to position themselves as promoters of their own community. Elder Shelley Charles led the group through an opening ceremony, and guest artists David Strickland and Mo Thunder mentored with the students throughout the program.

But the other symbols that i used where hearts. The materials I used were spray paint, paint, pencil, sharpie paint markers.

The thing I chose to represent me was a bear paw. I chose a bear paw because honestly, I just chose the easiest one. But aside from that I just feel like I wouldnt be able to represent an actual animal, so that was just another reason why I went for the paw of a bear. The symbols in my art piece represent the indigenous people like how I put The medicine wheel and other stuff layla said I should put. The materials I used to create this art piece were spray paint, paint, pencil and black & white Sharpie paint markers. The elements of art I used in my painting were line, colour and shape.

Another reason is because I like wolves. Two symbols I chose were…  A snake: I chose a snake because snakes are considered to be guides, protectors, and heroes in indigenous culture and I think it’s nice. Another one is a flower, I chose a flower because to me it symbolizes beauty and new growth. Like a flower flourishes and grows in the right environment, but withers away/ doesn’t grow in a harsh environment.

I chose a bear paw because my favorite animal is a bear and I also like the design that is made with the bear paw. My symbols in my bear paw represent the medicine wheel it represents the things that I like and the things that I find is really interesting in the design of the bear paw like a star, a sun, different shapes like circles, triangles. The materials I used in this art piece is a white marker a black marker that is like sharpie I also used spray paint and lastly I used paint to splat on my art piece. The elements I used to make my art piece is shapes like circles triangles lines that connect with each other and my texture of art was a smooth art piece when I mixed the paint in together the spacing that I used is I filled my whole canvas , my value on my art piece was from light to dark with my markers I put white marker to black marker on my art canvas.

I chose a bear because I liked the way it looked. I had a lot of fun making it.

I chose the bear because it reminds me of bravery, humility, and respect. The symbols in my art piece represent the mind and thinking in general. In our heads, we can remember fondly, but we can also forget along the way in life and I feel the art piece shows all the good memories and stories we people share. I used spray paint, paint, sharpie markers, and creativity. I used lots of lines and overlapping shapes mixed with some neutral colors and rough sharp shapes to bring out the elements of the mind.

The symbol I chose was a frog because I like frogs. Some symbols I put inside were a bird, a logo for a game and a flower.

The animal I chose to represent me was a bird. It could be any kind of bird, I don’t care. Birds were my favourite animals for as long as I could remember (Kindergarten). My first favourite bird was flamingos and it switched to other birds each year as I learned more. I even pretended I had a bird agency and somehow actually convinced one of my friends I was working for birds. It was obviously fake but about a few years later she told me that she actually thought it was real even if it was obvious that it was fake. I also had a couple of pet birds before as well. Birds also represent many things, it sometimes depends on the type of bird. The symbol you will see the most in my art piece are Shaplas (Water Lilies).

The animal I chose was a crow, I chose a crow because I remember being told Crows hold funerals for the dead and, have huge brains/are very smart. Crows can remember faces and can hold a grudge, they remind me of myself in a way, that’s why i chose a Crow as my animal. I did not put symbols because I didn’t know what represented me. Materials used: 1. Spray paint; 2. Pencils; 3. Canvas; 4. Sharpie markers; 5. White gel pen. Elements of art I used were lines, shapes.

I drew a dog paw because one of my dogs died. The symbols I used were a cross because I’m Christian and some of them were just designs I liked.

The animal I choose was a turtle because in the 7th grandfather teaching the turtle represents truth and i always believe in telling the truth my principal that is no longer at our school but he thought me to always tell the truth. I did not put any but if I were to I would but a pair of Boxing gloves because it has helps me a lot and I love to train and learn new moves I would also put my school log because i been here since I was 6 and I enjoy playing soccer everyday. Well first I used a canvas of course then after we used some spray paint and i really liked the way it came out then we also used some sharpes and markers.

The reason why I chose a paw was because it was the easiest to do because I’m not an artist and this the only thing I could really draw. I did a cross because I’m pretty religious and I feel like I have a good connection to God and then I did some things like the sun flowers and a butterfly and a rainbow. The materials I used to create this art piece were spray paint, paint, pencil and Sharpie paint markers. The elements of art I used were line colour and shape.

I chose a paw print to represent me because I thought it looked pretty. Some symbols I put inside were peace signs and the word food because I love food. I connected these symbols with lines.
